An important situation

We have found counting to three to be a very effective method for motivating Rosie.  Before we get to three, she usually has started moving; she really doesn't even like when we start counting and will often say, "Don't count to me!"

One night Rosie was upstairs drawing, and it was time for bed.  Her father called up to her that it was bedtime, and she responded with something about how she was busy drawing.  He told her that he was going to start counting, and she started to get frustrated.  And then he started counting: "One.... two...."  And Rosie responded...

"Stop DOING that!!!  This is SERIOUS!!!"

And so it begins

Rosie has taken to wandering into our room at night and climbing into bed with us.  In the morning, I asked her why she was in our bed, and she said, "It's nice and cozy!"  Then I asked her what was wrong with her bed.

Her response: "It's dumb."

Still a good big sister

Our attic is finished, but there is a storage area that is long, narrow, and has a low ceiling, making it very dark.  Little Brother likes to walk in and out of this space.  One day, he started to walk back there, and Rosie saw him.  She froze and shrieked, "No, Zacky, it's scary back there!"

Gotta work off those fruit flies

Rosie and her daddy discovered a spiderweb on the deck.  He pointed out the spider to Rosie and said, "Rosie, look at the spider running across the web!"  Rosie, in her usual tippy-toe excitement, exclaimed, "Yeah, she's exercising!"

Everyone's a Critic

My sister pointed out a painting to Rosie and told her that Rosie's great-grandmother had painted it.  She asked Rosie, "Isn't it a pretty painting?"

Her response: "Not yet."
